There has been a report released that estimates the cost of buying an Overwatch franchise for the upcoming League being run by Blizzard. You may be surprised to see that the evaluations are anywhere from $2 million to $5 million for some of the franchises that have smaller markets, whereas prime spots such as Los Angeles could cost up to $15 million.
While there are not any named sources for this information, it has been widely speculated that the Blizzard team have been looking at a number of different locations and key cities to base franchise sin.
There is going to be an information roadshow whereby potential owners can get more information about the upcoming league as well as discussing the purchasing opportunities a bit further.
There has been no information as to how the Blizzards team will decide on what bids will make it to the shortlist, as well as potential costs for purchasing a franchise may be.
What has been officially announced by Blizzard is that the Overwatch League is going to be focused on city based structures for the scene of e-sports. This means that these teams will hold permanent places in certain regions, similar to what the established American sports franchises found in major league baseball, hockey, basketball and football have today.
This means that the teams would be able to have local generation of revenues and be able to develop an organic and local fan base that will stand by the organization even if for example their favourite player on the team leaves.
