The TSM esports team has now won their 7th championship title to date, as well as their third consecutive LA NCS title after they overcame the challenge of the Immortals team last weekend.
This was a historic day for the event after TSM defeated Immortals in a 3-1 series to capture the hat trick of consecutive wins.
It was nip and tuck and the sides could not be separated by the experts beforehand who believed that the contest could go either way. It was a battle against an established force in the game and a side who are up and coming stars. This came after both of the teams managed to steamroll their opposition in the semi-finals to set up this tasty final pairing. Throughout the event there were little to no chinks in their armour exposed and both teams were confident of their chances.
It was obvious that both teams were playing very well as soon as the finals kicked off and the series remained deadlocked for much of the first couple of games. There were not any mistakes made by either teams in the early rounds and any leads were only marginal.
Once the middle of the game came upon the teams, TSM managed to start to show their experience and their players began to gain the upper hand against their opponents.
Immortals continued the fight and didn’t back down from the challenge. They constantly looked for ways in which they could break their opponents down and fought their way back into the series like a quality team that they are. Unfortunately TSM managed to gain enough momentum to sweep away their opponents towards the end of the series and they managed to successfully reclaim the title for a third year in a row which is a remarkable achievement.
This is the 7th time in the team’s history that they have won this event and it was great preparation for bigger events that are coming not too far down the line. Preparation for the World Championship begins for the teams who have qualified.
Even though they managed to win the league, TSM are still going to it as a pool two seed going into the Worlds after they did not perform well at the Mid-Season Invitational earlier on in the year. Immortals are also in this pool two as they were able to qualify thanks to the championship points that they had garnered.
It is not yet known which other team will be joining them in the pool. There are regional qualifiers taking place next week which will be the determining factor as to who the third North American representative will be and the last seed at the World Championships. This qualifier kicks off with FlyQuest facing Team Dignitas on the 8th of September.
This comes after CLG managed to sweep Team Dignitas in their games for the 3rd place position at the LA NCS event. This was an unexpected result and Team Dignitas will be hoping they can steer their ship back in the right direction in time for the qualifiers.
