In less than two months, KeyArena in Seattle, Washington will be the center of the eSports industry as it will host The International 7. With less than two months to go before the start of the tournament, Valve has started to announce the information about the event, and the biggest news are, without a doubt, the names of six teams that received the direct invites for the main event.
However, Valve did not only reveal the names of the invitees. They also announced the format of the competition that this year’s tournament will feature. Additionally, Valve has also announced the qualifiers that will be starting this weekend. Teams will be fighting worldwide for their place at the biggest eSports tournament in history.
As usual, The International will see 18 teams travel to Seattle for the main event. Twelve of those teams will have to go through the rigorous process of The International qualifiers. The other six teams have received their direct invitations.
The qualifiers have started this week, on June 26th. It will not be a long time before we get the names of the qualifying teams. As it was the case with every other International, each region will have its own qualifiers which guarantee that all regions will be represented at the competition.
The qualifiers will be held in the four major regions. These are Europe, China, Southeast Asia, and Americas. Each of these regions will feature open and closed qualifiers. Only three teams from each of these regions will be able to secure their space at the tournament in KeyArena.
Besides that, Valve also announced that the first stage of the competition will feature all eighteen teams that will be competing in the Round Robin format of the competition. The eighteen teams will play in two groups with nine teams in each group. In the end of the group stage, only the last team in the group will be eliminated from the competition.
The remaining sixteen teams will be advancing to the next stage of the competition or the playoffs. The format of the competition in the playoffs will feature Double Elimination style of play. This format was also used for the last several editions of this tournament. The Double Elimination format of the competition will be featured all the way until the end. In the end, only one team will take home the prestigious The International title.
The International 2017 will be held from August 7th to August 12th this year. Once more, it will be the biggest Dota 2 competition ever seen in the eSports industry. With the prize pool already past $15 million, ,most expect that this year’s tournament will feature bigger prize pool than the last year’s edition.
Besides that, it seems that the competitiveness of the teams has never been higher before and because of that, many expect to see the best Dota 2 action ever seen in any competition.
