Last year, everything looked very good for Team Random after the managed to win the title at The International 6 even though they had very big problems in the period leading to the International. Team Random has been known under the name Wings Gaming until the last year. The players from the team complained about the treatment and terms in the organization. They publicly stated that the owner of the organization owes the players huge amount of money in salaries. Allegedly, team’s officials have failed to deliver the players with the right percentage of their The International winnings. These winnings amounted to $9.1 Million.
On April 16, all players from the former Wings Gaming Dota 2 team announced that they will be leaving the team. This move was made prior to the expiration of their contracts. After leaving the team, those players founded a new team, Team Random. Wings Gaming are currently the holders of the biggest prize in the history of eSports. Yet,all the credit for that goes to the boys who now play for Team Random.
For several months now, there was no news about Team Random and their dispute with Wings Gaming. However, just recently, the Association of Chinese eSports announced that they have banned all players from Team Random from participating. The ban regards participating at any eSports event that is being or will be held in China. After the news broke, several Team Random players stated that Wings Gaming’s CEO was the one who demanded this. Apparently, he sent a letter to ACE asking for this ban. The ban does make sense, as the players did break their contractual obligations to Wings Gaming.
Pair Of Players Being Disloyal?
Some of the former Wings Gaming players, namely Zhang ‘y’ Yiping and Zhang ‘faith_bian’ Ruida were ready to resolve this dispute. However, the organization and their owner did not pay much attention to this. They demanded a ban from China for all five players. These two players are no longer members of Team Random, and their former teammates have commented on their move. Others believe that they have actually thrown them under a bus just to save themselves. According to Chu ‘Shadow’ Zeyu, all five players were aware that this kind of reaction from ACE might be coming. They all agreed that they will take the punishment no matter what it was but Y and faith_bian were not obviously that keen and devoted to the team as they opted to save themselves by throwing other players under the bus.
Even though all five players have been banned from participating at any eSports event in China, the ban from ACE does not affect the players when it comes to the Dota 2 competitions in other parts of the world. Because of that, The International 7 and the Valve Major that will be the biggest tournaments in the second part of the season are not obliged to enforce this decision by ACE.
However, with all this going on and with Team Random players being banned in China, the question remains whether how far Team Random will be able to go in defending the title at The International 7 that will be taking place in August.
