Team Dignitas Secure A Playoffs Spot Against Immortals
|
On Sunday, Team Dignitas and Immortals, during the Week 9 of the North American League of Legends Spring Split, fought for the final spot in the North American League of Legends North American Championship Series. For both teams, this was the biggest and the most important match in a long while. Immortals faced a huge pressure because they had to defend their place in the middle of the standings before the match against Team Dignitas. On the other hand, Team Dignitas also faced a huge pressure because they came from the tenth place only to reach this opportunity and to get the possibility of reaching the playoff.
Mediocre Play From Both Teams Sees Team Dignitas Advance
The winner was decided in two games that featured a very mediocre performance by both teams. Team Dignitas did manage to win in the end, but they were not happy with their performance because even they realized that they can do much better while the matches were going on and that it was almost luck that pushed them towards the playoff. That bad performance was first obvious when Team Dignitas had the opportunity to blow Immortals’ Nexus in the first game but due to poor team play and communication among the players they did not manage to do that for an entire hour.
However, even with that kind of play, Team Dignitas managed to win against Immortals and right now when analyzing their match we can see that the reason why Immortals lost the match was their failure to perform well in two crucial areas. The first area is the draft in the game itself while the second area is, in fact, the bad execution in game 2 in the late period of the game. For Immortals it proved devastating coming to this match without an initiation especially when they faced Varus and Cassiopeia and combining that with the fact that they were not able to eliminate Keane or LOD, Immortals had to lose the first game.
However, Immortals have shown the sign of potential win, but in Game 2 they tried too hard and that forcing provided an opportunity for Team Dignitas to come back and to win in Game 2 and secure the place in the playoff with that win. Individually, Pobelter from Immortals has been the best aspect of his team and once again it was proven that one good player does not mean the win as well as the importance of the team play that Immortals lacked even more than Team Dignitas.
In a little less than two weeks, Team Dignitas will be participating in the Spring Split playoffs, but the seeding is still not determined because organizers are still waiting for the results from some other matches. However, if they continue with the games like the ones against Immortals their adventure in that competition will be very short. On the other hand, Immortals have a lot of thinking to do before they move on to another tournament and they will have to improve on many issues if they want to be competitive once again.
