Singularity Claims Unlikely Victory at Copenhagen Games 2017
|
The past weekend, fans of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive had the opportunity to witness the biggest CS:GO competition in Denmark. The Copenhagen Games might not have featured the biggest names of the CS:GO eSports scene, but in the end, we can say that the tournament was a very interesting, with a lot of exciting matches and some amazing play.
Fans expected a lot from the final skirmish, and in the end, they were not disappointed. The final match of Copenhagen Games 2017 featured Danish side, Singularity, facing against Dreamchasers from Sweden. In the end, it was Singularity that had more reasons for celebrations as they managed to win on both maps.
Difficult Road to Victory
However, getting into the finals wasn’t an easy job for Singularity. Even in the group stage, Singularity did not display any amazing play. In the end, they managed to advance to the next stage of the competition. Their record is two wins and one defeat.
In the next round, Singularity faced iGame.com, the number one team from Group D. This was, perhaps, the most interesting match of the entire tournament. It is mostly because neither team was able to gain a clear advantage. All three maps had to be played to determine the winner.
However, the biggest surprise of the Copenhagen Games came in the next round when Singularity faced BIG. Together with Epsilon eSports, BIG were the top favorites to claim the title. They were expected to run over the competition in without too much trouble.
During the match, however, Singularity did not allow BIG any opportunities to win even a single game. After the two games, Singularity eliminated the biggest pretenders for the throne, clearing their road to victory. The win indicated that Singularity might go very far in the tournament and after their performance against BIG, everybody started looking at them as the favorites.
The Final Hurdle
Singularity’s opponents in the final, Dreamchasers, are a team comprised of very experienced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players and it was clear they wouldn’t give up without putting up a serious fight.
Two maps that were determined for the final were Mirage and Nuke. During the first map, the Mirage, Dreamchasers managed to gain an advantage, and at the halftime, Dreamchasers were leading 8-7. However, Singularity came much stronger in the second half and not long after the start of the second half they had the advantage of 12-9. In the end, it was Singularity that managed to win the first map with the score 16-13.
Similarly to the first map, Dreamchasers had the advantage at the halftime of the second map, and the score was, again, 8-7 even though Dreamchasers have been up even more at certain points. However, Singularity once again proved that they play much better in the second half. They managed to nullify Dreamchasers’ advantage and seize a 5 point lead.
Unlike their opponents, Singularity didn’t let this lead go to waste, and they claimed the second victory. With that win, they secured the title and the prize in the amount of $31,840.
BIG and Tricked finished Copenhagen Games 2017 in 3rd-4th place. All in all, this was a bad tournament for big favorites such as BIG or Epsilon eSports. However it proved very good for Singularity.
