Rivalry Between Unicorns of Love and G2 Continues

Vedran Ostojic | July 1, 2017 | League of Legends | No Comments

When it comes to EU LCS and other League of Legends competitions in this region, there is only one rivalry that comes to mind, the one between G2 eSports and Unicorns of Love. Rarely any other teams in the world have played that much head to head matches. Rarely any other matchup in the world has been so thought provoking as the previously mentioned one.

Currently, G2 eSports are undisputed and unchallenged kings of Europe when it comes to League of Legends. In the recent time, they have been making their mark on the global stage. In the first place, with their performance at the Mid-Season Invitational where they reached the finals.

Previous Encounter

Unicorns of Love and G2 eSports faced each other the last time not that long ago. They faced in the finals of EU LCS Spring Split. Just like in many cases before, G2 eSports displayed great dominance in that match. They managed to win which meant that they have won their third EU LCS Split title in a row. Like so many times before, Unicorns of Love were devastated by the fact that they could not do anything against their nemesis in the competition.

After the end of Spring Split, Unicorns of Love decided to travel to South Korea. There they trained with some of the best League of Legends individuals. Even though no Unicorns of Love officials has ever explicitly confirmed, the main reason for that trip was finding the way to beat G2 eSports. It seems that only teams from South Korea are able to defeat G2.

The Rivalry Continues

This Friday, these two teams will face each other once again. Before the start of the Summer Split, G2 eSports was an absolute favorite for the title. However after four weeks of the competition, the things have changed.

G2 is not that dominant anymore. In the first four weeks of the competition they have suffered two defeats, against Misfits and Fnatic. That has put them in the third place in the group currently. On the other hand, Unicorns of Love are living up to their status of favorites in their group as they are currently in the top positions together with H2K Gaming as well as with Splyce.

This will be an interesting matchup in many different aspects but the most interesting aspect, by far, will be the matchup between Fabian ‘Exileh’ Schubert from Unicorns of Love and Luka ‘PerkZ’ Perkovic from G2 Esports. These two players are currently the best mid lane players that Europe has to offer and over the last year or so, both of these players have been the biggest reason for the successes of their teams.

Going into this match, G2 must feel confident as they have never lost a match against Unicorns of Love and that will be great motivation for them in this group. However, with their not so good performances in the first four weeks of the competition, Unicorns of Love are also feeling confident more than ever that they can finally defeat G2.

Who will come out victorious from this matchup, we will find out of Friday evening. Crucial for both teams will be their performances in the mid lane and because of that PerkZ and Exileh will be under great pressure to perform well in this match.
