Prodota announces Dota 2 OverPower Cup

The Kiev Major qualifiers marked their finals yesterday, with Invictus Gaming of China being the last team to earn a spot to the main event. Invictus Gaming’s sister team, iG.Vitality, also made it through the qualifiers. In other regions, Secret, Virtus Pro, SG-eSports, TNC Pro Team, Team Onyx and Faceless earned their spots in Kiev.

Following the qualifiers’ conclusion, Dota 2 eSports fans were in a for a rough period as a two-week long drought was expected after the conclusion of the Kiev Major qualifiers. However, that all changed with Prodota’s announcement of the OverPower Cup. The tournament will be held on March 17th through March 20th.

Prodota have made a smart move by organizing a tournament with virtually zero competition. The OverPower cup will feature a small prize pool of $5000, with additional room to grow, as the Prodota team is open to crowd-funding donations that should increase the prize pool by a fair margin. At the moment of writing, the crowd-funded pool stands at $5005.

Despite crowd-funding attempts, we are not looking at a high-profile tournament with a big prize pool. But, a handful of notable teams will participate. The full list is below:

  • Ø Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Ø F. R.I.E.N.D.S
  • Ø Team Empire
  • Ø Team LQ
  • Ø Team Spirit
  • Ø Elements Pro Gaming
  • Ø Cloud 9

Out of the initial $5000, $3000 will go to 1st place, $1500 to 2nd place and $500 to 3rd place. The tournament will be streamed on Twitch by Moonduck Studio, whereas the full tournament details are available on their website.
