Last week marked the beginning of the competition in the NA LCS Summer Split. After all matches of the first week have been completed several teams have shined. Good performance was expected from some of those teams while some other teams surprised even their biggest fans and supporters.
Many teams have gone through serious roster change. The Summer Split will be a clear indication of whether or not those changes have paid off. Even though it might still be too early, the first week has already put forward some teams that many are now considering to be the favorites for the title.
Counter Logic Gaming Going Strong
One of those teams is Counter Logic Gaming or CLG who became the first team in Summer Split that managed to win in their both matches of the first week. For many commentators and experts, this is not a surprise as CLG has displayed excellent performances over the last couple of months.
Even before the start of the Summer Split, CLG has been among the favorites for the title, but with Team SoloMid and Cloud9, their chances seemed to be far fetched. With two wins in their first two matches of the Split, their chances have increased a lot especially after considering that Team SoloMid did not perform well during the first week.
Team Dignitas a Contender for The Title?
Another team that had the perfect record after the first week was Team Dignitas. They took down FlyQuest for their second win of the week. During those two matches, Dignitas’ Ssumday displayed performance rarely seen in similar matches. During the entire second match he died on only two occasions. This enabled him to have an excellent record when it comes to collecting gold.
Not that long ago, Team Dignitas finished in the 6th place in the Spring Split, and if we are to judge from the first week, they have significantly improved for the Summer Split. Spring Split was a big disappointment for Team Dignitas and their fans, but it seems that they will be much better in the Summer Split.
Can Immortals Go All The Way?
The biggest achievement in the first week comes from Immortals who wiped the floor with the current champions, Team SoloMid. Even though Immortals’ Pobelter had some disappointing performances in the past, that did not happen against TSM in the first match of the Summer Split as he led his team to a very impressive win in that match.
Their second match proved to be even easier as they took control of the match early in the game one. As the match was coming to an end, Immortals displayed even greater dominance, and after only 26 minutes of game two, they secured their second win in week one.
Echo Fox: The Dark Horses
The biggest surprise of the first week, without a doubt, is Echo Fox. Their schedule for the first week did not look good as they had to face FlyQuest and Team Liquid. However, FlyQuest was going through some unexplained problems. They were unable to match the game that Echo Fox displayed in the first match that led them to win the first match of the week.
In their second match, they faced Team Liquid who has been struggling a lot during the Spring Split. Echo Fox did not have a lot of problems closing that match in their favor. It seems that Team Liquid might be fighting to stay in LCS for the next season. Besides winning the first two matches, Echo Fox is part of an even smaller group of teams that did not lose a single map during the first week.
A Long Way to Go
It seems that some new players are coming to the scene in Summer Split. However, the fact is that this has been just the first week of the competition. Things can change significantly as soon as next week. Despite that, it still impressive to see how many teams have improved when compared to their performances.
