NA LCS Summer Split has been very interesting with all the upsets and surprising outcomes of the matches. However, when it comes to the best Rookie player in the entire competition, the situation pretty soon became crystallized as Yasin ‘Nisqy’ Dincer and Mike Yeung became the only candidates for the Rookie of the Split award. After only a few weeks, it became clear that Mike Yeung will be the only candidate for the award as Nisqy and his team EnVyUs have been performing very badly at that time.
In the first few weeks, Nisqby was never to be found as he was still looking for his right game while still getting to know his teammates. However, that would change after few weeks and Nisqby would become a very strong candidate for the Rookie of the Split award.
After few weeks, Team EnVyUs started to play much better and to climb the standings as Nisqby find a very good connection with their jungler and other players from the team. Besides that, Team EnVyUs brought another rookie player, Omar ‘OmarGod’ Amin who also put forward his claims to the Rookie of the Year award.
Somewhere around the middle of the Split, it became clear that Mike Yeung is far from being the only contender for the Rookie of the Year award. Besides that, Yeung’s team, Phoenix1, did not a good time in the competition at all during those weeks. At one point, Phoenix1 was even in the last place in the competition which meant that Yeung is far away from being crowned as the best rookie in the Summer Split.
Team EnVyUs was doing much better and with two strong contenders for that award, it seemed that EnVyUs cannot lose that award. However, Yeung still managed to come back and put on amazing performances even though his team did not have good results in the competition until the end of the Split.
Yeung Wins The Award After All
In the end, it was Mike Yeung who celebrated the Rookie of the Split award as Riot Games announced on their website that Yeung has won the award despite his team’s bad performances in the competition. Mike Yeung has become Phoenix1’s best player in a very short period of time and it is very possible that he will not be staying with his current team for much longer as Phoenix1 finished in the last place in the competition this Split.
Because of that, it is possible that Phoenix1 will not be even able to maintain their spot in the NA LCS for the next Split as they will have a lot of problems in the relegation and promotion tournament. League of Legends World Championship 2017 is getting closer and with the period of player shuffle starting after that tournament, many teams are already looking for the opportunity to negotiate with Yeung. Because of that, it will be very interesting to see whether and where Yeung will be continuing his career and the team that manages to sign him will gain a very good player for the upcoming Splits.
