The world of eSports is full of amazing stories of players who came out of nowhere and took the world by storm together with their teams. Dota 2 is no expectation and this competition also features many similar stories of players who would have a very big influence on the competition and Dota 2 i general. One such player is Kuro ‘KuroKy’ Salehi Takhasomi whose devotion to hard work is something that has rarely been seen in the Dota 2 competitions.
Over the years, KurkoKy faced many different problems that kept him away from winning many more tournaments than he did not win. However, just like it is the case with professional athletes, harsh moments are what make a difference between a champion and those who are not.
Over the years, KuroKy did not have much luck and on many cases, he was one step away from achieving the biggest success but for some reasons, things always went wrong and he missed out on the opportunity. However, in the last couple of years, KuroKy is finally getting what he deserves and with The International 2017 things could potentially end up amazingly for this player.
Kuro ‘KurkoKy’ Salehi Takhasomi was born on October 28, 1992. This German player has been playing Dota 2 for almost his entire life which seems to be the common thing for almost all great Dota 2 players ever. However, during his childhood, KuroKy had a lot of problems with legs and on more than one occasion he has said that his legs disability have led him to play video games in his childhood and especially Dota 2.
Back at that time, he would struggle a lot with using his legs but that did not prevent him from becoming one of the best Dota 2 players in the world in the last couple of years. Before he made his debut in the international Dota 2 competitions, KuroKy played for several Germany based teams but they competed only in local competitions.
However, he displayed huge talent in those local competitions while he was competing which was enough for some of the biggest European Dota 2 teams in that time to show their interest in this players. Eventually, KuroKy would step out of Germany based competition and move on to the international Dota 2 scene after he signed his first professional contract with Mousesports Dota 2 team.
In 2008, when KuroKy was just 16, mousesports participated at the DreamHack Winter 2008 together with Puppey and that will mark the beginning of the relationship between KuroKy and Puppey that will last for many years to come. After that, every tournament that KuroKy participated in did not bring any special results for him or his team.
However, the first time that KuroKy made a huge impact in Dota 2 competition was back at The International 2011 where he played with GosuGamers.net. At that tournament, KuroKy played together with Kebap, Mirakel, and Azen and already at that time he was considered to be a very good Dota 2 player.
After the International 2011, KuroKy would leave GosuGamers and join Virtus.pro but he will stay there for only a month before returning to mousesports. He also left mouseposrts very quickly, but he will join the organization once again in November 2011. Somehow, he kept coming back to this team several times over the years.
In 2013, however, he joined Natus Vincere where he spent more than a year. At that time, Natus Vincere was one of the best Dota 2 teams in the world. In that team, he had a very big role in the team but the things would start going downwards several weeks before he would leave the team. After Natus Vincere, he joined Team Secret where he also stayed for one year. After Team Secret he would join a little-known team called 5Jungz but he would stay there for only two months.
While playing for 5Jungz, KuroKy grabbed the attention of officials from Team Liquid who at that time was looking for a new player. In October 2015, it was announced that KuroKy will be joining the team as their new support player. It would not pass a long time before KuroKy would become the main player in the team and soon after that, he became the captain of Team Liquid.
Currently, he is still playing with Team Liquid and they seem to be better than ever. For KuroKy that is the opportunity to achieve everything that he has failed to do while playing for every other team in his professional career. He joined Team Liquid in 2015 and he is still in the team which means that he has been the longest in Team Liquid.
When KuroKy first appeared in the International 2011, he and his team, GosuGamers finished in the 13-16th place and that was just the start of his achievements in Dota 2 competitions. In 2012, he played for Mousesports and in April 2012, he managed to win his first international Dota 2 title when they defeated Counter Logic Gaming in the final of The Arena #1.
That year, he and mouseposrts also participated at the International but he was not able to improve his result from the year before and they once again finished in the 13-16th place. That year, they also finished in the 3rd pace at the StarLadder StarSeries Season 3. They would finish that season with the 5-16th place at the StarLadder StarSeries Season 4.
After KuroKy joined Na’Vi in 2013, his results started to improve significantly. Only that year, he and Na’Vi managed to win the first place at the Alienware Cup 2013 – Season 1, RaidCall Dota 2 League Season 3, The Defense Season 4, Techlabs Cup 2013, Season 3, WePlay Dota 2 League Season 2, Techlabs Cup 2013.
That year, they also participated at The International and it was a truly great tournament for Na’Vi and KuroKy. In the end, they have failed to win the title because they were defeated by Alliance in the grand finals. They were so close to winning in because the match had to go to game five.
The following year, KuroKy will be still playing for Na’Vi and they would continue with their good results as they would win the first place StarLadder StarSeries Season 8, Dota 2 Champions League Season 2. That year, he will also participate at the International and they would finish the competition in the 7-8th place which was much worse than the year before.
After leaving Na’Vi and joining Team Secret, KuroKy continued with good games as he managed to win the Dota Pit League Season 2, and XMG Captains Draft 2.0 in 2014. In 2015, they would win 2015 Red Bull Battle Grounds: Dota 2, The Summit 3, MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 Spring, ESL One Frankfurt 2015. Besides that, they also won several minor tournaments that year.
However, his time in Team Liquid has been the most successful for him because they managed to win Star Ladder i-League Invitational #2, StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3, EPICENTER 2017, DreamLeague Season 7, as well as EPICENTER in 2016. In 2016, Team Liquid participated in the International and they finished in the 7-8th place that year.
This year’s International might be a very good for them as they have been in the best form of all teams. No matter what happens, Kuro ‘KuroKy’ Salehi Takhasomi will go down in history as one of the most successful players in the history of Dota 2 eSports competitions.
