Ivan Borislavov has not been playing competitive Dota 2 for a long time but in that short period of time, he has become a very respectable player and a very important player for Team Liquid in their efforts to win Dota 2 tournaments. In just little more than three years of actively playing Dota 2, MinD_ContRoL has achieved things that rarely any other player in the world was able to do in a much longer period of time.
Because of that, many believe that MinD_ContRoL is currently one of the best Dota 2 players in the world. He might not be the most exposed player in the world, but his contribution to the team’s results and his game style have made him an instrumental part of the Team Liquid’s game, especially during this year.
Ivan Borislavov ‘MinD_ContRoL’ Ivanov was born on January 20, 1995, and considering that he is just 22 years old, he will continue to play for a while and it is expected that his career will be going up. If he manages to avoid injuries that too often ended careers of players who showed great potential, MinD_ContRoL could on his way to become one of the greatest Dota 2 players ever.
Coming from Bulgaria, he did not have a great background in competitive Dota 2 before he actually joined his first team. It is much easier for players from the United States or other Western countries to become good in eSports and MinD_ContRoL has proven that despite all the problems, players from other countries can succeed not only in Dota 2 competitions but also in other eSports competitions as well.
Ivan Borislavov ‘MinD_ContRoL’ Ivanov started his competitive Dota 2 career back in 2014 and his first professional team was Vast Cast. As soon as he joined Vast Cast, the team started to improve their results which culminated in them qualifying for several smaller online Dota 2 competitions but that was just the start of MinD_ContRoL’s career.
Vast Cast played under that name for almost a year but their performances have caught the eye of some big sponsors and in April of 2014, Vast Cast announced that they have signed a contract with Aftershock Gaming and that they will be playing under that name from that moment on. Apparently, the organization demanded that the team makes some changes in their roster which they did eventually and since then, the rise of MinD_ContRoL as a very good Dota 2 player began. Under that name, MinD_ContRoL and the rest of the team managed to achieve significant results.
Those results proved to be a window into much bigger things that MinD_ContRoL and the rest of the players could do with the right support from the organization. In September of the same year, it was announced that MinD_ContRoL and the rest of the team have left Aftershock Gaming and that they have signed a contract with an organization called Basically Unknown.
Things were not going that well when they played for Basically Unkown as they were making changes in their roster almost on a monthly basis. As a consequence of not having stability in the team, the results were not that good anymore. At the start of 2015, Basically Unknown would sign a contract with Turtoi ‘Arise’ Ionut but only four days after he signed a contract a scandal broke out in the team. Arise published online a video that depicts the private scrim results of Basically Unknown and because of that MinD_ContRoL decided that Arise would have to leave the team. However, things once again change only two days after that when the team had a meeting where they decided to give Arise another opportunity.
All that had a huge influence on MinD_ContRoL and his performances in the matches. After not being able to return to his previous form with Basically Unknown or after being out voted when Arise came back, MinD_ContRoL decided that he will be leaving the team for good and his departure became official on May 5th, 2015.
After leaving Basically Unknown, MinD_ContRoL would spend the next six months looking for the team that would be the best for him. First, he joined hehe united in May 2015 but he stayed on that team for only three months after which he moved to 5Jungz where he perhaps showed the greatest skills up to that point in his career.
Their games while playing for 5Jungz caught the attention of Team Liquid’s players and after MinD_ContRoL left 5Jungz, Team Liquid saw the opportunity to snatch away this player for their team. In October 2015, it became official that MinD_ContRoL has joined Team Liquid and he has remained in this team since then. His period in Team Liquid will mark his entire career because it was and still is a period of hard work, sacrifices, devotions, bad luck and in the end great success.
The start of his career was not that successful as they did not several good results but the majority of the tournaments featured them in the lower part of the standings. That year, their best result was a fourth place at the Major tournament called Battle of Central Europe Season 3. However, in January 2015, MinD_ContRoL won his first Dota 2 title when Basically Unknown defeated Balkan Bears in the final match of Bridon Open Cup.
That same year, MinD_ContRoL also managed to win the title at the Hitbox Challenger by Razer, and MSI Dragon Battle #4. That year, they were also victorious at Alienware Summer’s End Cup where they took down Golden Boys in the finals. In 2015, MinD_ContRoL joined which turned out to be a very good decision because as soon as he joined the team, they won the title at the Dota 2 Champions League Season 6. With Team Liquid that year, MinD_ContRoL also won the title at The Defense Season 5 as well as the third place at the World Cyber Arena 2015 which concluded Dota 2 competitions for that year.
MinD_ContRoL and Team Liquid started 2016 with the 3-4th place at the StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 1 but only a month later they would participate at The Shanghai Major where they would finish the tournament in the second place. If we exclude 2017, 2016 was the best year that MinD_ContRoL had in competitive Dota 2 scene and some of the reasons for that were the first place at the EPICENTER 2016 and at the BTS Europe #3, second place at the ESL One Manila 2016 and at The Manila Major 2016, third place at the ESL One Frankfurt 2016, The Summit 5, FACEIT Invitational, and at the WellPlay Invitational #6.
However, all that is nothing when we add the results that Team Liquid and MinD_ContRoL had in 2017. They started the year by winning the first place in the qualifiers for the StarLadder i-League only to go on and to win the title at the StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3 only two months later. After that, they had a period of not so good results but they made a huge comeback at the StarLadder i-League Invitational #2 when they defeated TnC Pro Team in the grand finals.
Since then, things have been going great for MinD_ContRoL and Team Liquid because they won the second place at the DreamLeague Season 7 EU Division and then started the best period that probably any team had in Dota 2 competition. In June 2017, MinD_ContRoL and Team Liquid won EPICENTER 017 and then, in the same month, they won the DreamLeague Season 7. With that kind of results, they were the biggest contenders for the title at The International 7.
In the end, MinD_ContRoL and Team Liquid achieved what they have been trying to do from the very start of their career and that is to win the International. MinD_ContRoL displayed the amazing game in the final match which additionally proved that he is one of the best players in the world at this moment.
By winning the International 7, Ivan Borislavov ‘MinD_ContRoL’ Ivanov also became of the players that earned the most money from the competitions. Currently, he is currently in the position number five and he managed to win $2,703,171.96 up to this moment. Disregarding that amount and focusing only on his performances, it can be said that MinD_ContRoL will be dominating competitive Dota 2 scene for the years to come.
