Ivan Potocki | July 20, 2017 | Overwatch | No Comments

Blizzard has finally revealed some details about the Overwatch League. In their statement a couple of days ago, Blizzard announced the names of first seven owners of the spots. These seven owners have their spots in the Overwatch League. However, more importantly, Nate Nanzer, Overwatch League Commissioner has confirmed that this competition will be starting later this year. However many believed that will not be happening until 2018.

Blizzard and Overwatch have had a very rough period in the last three or four months. It seems like many teams from all over the world deciding to step down and release their Overwatch teams. This is due to the unpredictable future of the game. Yesterday, Blizzard announced some more details about the potential aspects of the Overwatch League.

Fantasy Sports

In a conversation that Nate Nanzer had about the latest announcement of the Overwatch League, he mentioned several other things that will make Overwatch fans very excited. One of the things that he mentioned was that Blizzard has plans for introducing fantasy sports game for Overwatch League. This will happen as soon as the competition starts.

In the previously mentioned conversation, Nanzer said that fantasy sports game have become extremely popular in the last couple of years when it comes to traditional sports. Because of that, they are currently working on trying to implement a similar idea into the Overwatch League. However, unlike some fantasy sports games for other traditional sports, the fantasy sports game for Overwatch League will not have a gambling component attached to it.

In the last couple of years, fantasy sports industry has been developing quicker than many other industries. In a very short period of time, this industry has surpassed the $1 billion mark. However, this industry has not been without its problems and controversies. These games often featured gambling elements that are often illegal in the United States.

Because of that, Blizzard is working on a new version of the fantasy game for Overwatch League. This version that will not feature gambling elements. However it that will provide the same level of excitement and entertainment that the standard fantasy sports games are providing. The Overwatch fantasy game is still in the early stages of the development which means that it might not be available until the start of 2018.

Building for the Future

Nate Nanzer also said that one of the reasons why it takes so long to get the Overwatch League started is their intention to build something for the future and something that will last a long time. That kind of effort demands a lot of attention and devotion, and that is the main reason why they did not want to rush with the launch of the Overwatch League.

Because of that, Blizzard is preparing a series of additional content and other products that would accompany each state of the Overwatch League. Nate Nanzer also indicated that more news about the Overwatch League will be coming soon. However, this will not be the first time that a certain eSports competition has featured a fantasy sports game because several years ago, Riot introduced their fantasy game for League of Legends.
