Some of you readers might think that Arc6 is the new Overwatch team in the competition, but you would be mistaken. Arc6 has competed under the different name in the last year or so, and the name they used was Yikes! However, it seems that after Overwatch Contenders it was time for rebranding the team which resulted in Yikes changing their name to Arc6.
Yikes, or Arc6, has failed to achieve a good result in the Overwatch Contenders that finished not that long ago. They even failed to advance to the playoffs because they were eliminated early in the group stage. That was a big disappointment for the team as they were expecting much more from this competition. Because of that, the team decided that something needs to be changed. That was the reason why Donald ‘Dahun’ Leigh was released.
Donald ‘Dahun’ Leigh
Donal ‘Dahun’ Leigh is a relatively new name in the Overwatch scene. Before coming to prominence as a member of Yikes who secured their spot in the Contenders through regional qualifiers, Dahun was an amateur player without a lot experience in professional gaming. Together with other players who shared the similar experience in Yikes, Dahun managed to help his team in the regional qualifiers.
However, once the Contenders started, Dahun and Yikes did not have much success. Their result in this competition was very disappointing. Many fans, as well as many commentators, expected better. Fans expected that they would not have a lot of problems with moving on to the playoffs stage. However, the team could not live up to those expectations for some undisclosed reason. After the end of the group stage, Yikes was not making any statements. Later they announced that Dahun would be leaving the team.
We cannot but think that Dahun was suffering consequences of bad performance of the entire team and not just individual players. Not long after the team announced that Dahun would be leaving the team, they also announced that Scott ‘Custa’ Kennedy would be replacing him in the team. But that was not the only change in the team because Arc6 announced that Gingerpop would be moving from playing as a flex support to Lucio. Besides that, he will also be taking on the role of the in-game leader for Arc6.
Scott ‘Custa’ Kennedy
Many fans were very surprised with the name of the player that Arc6 introduced as a replacement for Dahun. Scott ‘Custa’ Kennedy has been one of the biggest names in Overwatch scene in the last couple of months. Before joining Arc6, he played as a support player for Fnatic. After Fnatic disbanded their Overwatch team, Custa became a free agent which Arc6 used to sign this player.
Custa will have his debut for the new team very soon as Yikes will be participating in the Overwatch BEAT Invitational that will be starting on July 7th. According to the team’s officials, this change in the lineup and the change of their name are just a couple of steps in their effort of bringing the team to their previous days of glory. However, the road to that goal will be long and bumpy, and it will not be an easy trip.
