Cloud9 Overwatch Manager Alicus Steps Down Over Contractual Dispute

Vedran Ostojic | October 2, 2017 | Overwatch | No Comments

Cloud9 Overwatch manager Alicus decided to step down from the organization as announced on Friday. He joined the team only a month ago. Former Cloud9 Overwatch team manager Ali Alicus Saba decided to share with fans that due to some greatly unforeseen circumstances including business and personal matters he decided to step down from the organization. He added that it is the best for his career development as well as the best for the Cloud9 organization.

Further, he will move on to explore some other opportunities and options which already have been presented to him. He also added that alleged contractual dispute with a few former Cloud9 players has surfaced and that it requires his immediate and full attention in order to ensure that this situation is justly as well as properly resolved. He hopes that the situation on the matter will be resolved soon and amicably without any need for some additional recourse.

We have to say that Alicus’s announcement really came at a very interesting time, just one day after the team signed new South Korean Overwatch roster KongDoo Panther. It is odd enough that former Cloud9 Overwatch manager spoke out against signing this new roster in his tweet which was circulated on Thursday after the team just signed new Overwatch roster. It should be noted that Alicus the founder of major European Overwatch clan Laser Kittenz that was obtained by the organization last month. However, Alicus decided to depart the organization only a month after joining it.

The News Comes After Signing South Korean KongDoo Panthera

The owner of the United Kingdom Overwatch League spot ate currently without their Overwatch manager. Former manager Alicus stated that he is leaving the organization due to alleged contractual disputer with some of the Cloud9 former players. While he stated that he is leaving the organization with a heavy heart and that his resignation is official, this alleged legal dispute is not explained yet. On the other hand, a lawyer representing five former Cloud9 players as well as a staff member stated that this dispute, in fact, doesn’t involve the organization.

Multiple Overwatch League Offers

A source that is close to this situation stated that former Cloud9 Overwatch manager had multiple offers in July, but he decided to join team Cloud9 as their Overwatch manager. He turned down all of the other proposals, since they were just for him and not for the his Laser Kittenz team. The organization official acquired the Laser Kittenz roster and Ali Alicus Saba in the middle of August, and Laser Kittenz has been competing under Cloud9 banner ever since. A couple of days ago, Cloud9 announced signing a new Sout Korean roster KongDoo Panthera, so the future of former Laser Kittenz players and the overall team’s situation currently is unstable. Jack Etienne, Cloud9 owner, recently stated that the team will support Laser Kitenz roster. The organization will also support the North American Cloud9 team while they seek for some new teams. On the other hand, it hasn’t been announced who will represent the team in the upcoming Overwatch League that starts in January of 2018.
