Cloud9 is Back in The International after Signing Team NP

Vedran Ostojic | August 2, 2017 | Dota 2 | No Comments

Cloud9 has been one of the eSports organizations that have been present in Dota 2 competitions for a long while. However, during all that time, they were not able to achieve any major results. On many occasions, they found themselves in the final stages of a tournament and then something would happen to block the performances of their players and Cloud9 would always lose.

Because of that, Cloud9 has been changing their Dota 2 roster several times but each time, the team would start good but their results will start going down very quickly. In all that mess, Cloud9 was not able to find the right players for their team but it seems that might be changing very soon because it was announced that Team NP has joined Cloud9 eSports organization.

Previous Attempts

Back at The International 2015, Clodu9 was the biggest surprise in the negative sense because they were eliminated very quickly in the tournament. Since then, they have not been able to achieve good results when it comes to Dota 2 competitions. After their failure at The International 2015, Cloud9 decided to disband their entire roster. Not long after that, they announced that they have signed Team Dark Horse.

However, that North American team was also unable to produce any good results and in the midst of problems with Ravindu ‘Ritsu’ Kodippili’s behavior, Cloud9 announced in November of that year that they have disbanded their entire team. At the start of this year, Cloud9 announced once again that they have signed yet another team, this time it was Danish Bears.

Following the pattern of Cloud9’s previous Dota 2 teams, their new roster was not able to bring good results. Moreover, they have failed to qualify for any of the major Dota 2 tournaments which led players to disband their team in May this year.

The New Roster

At the same time, Team NP has been causing a lot of fuss in the world of Dota 2 and that became especially evident when they secured their place at The International 2017. For those of you who are long-term fans of Cloud9, this roster might seem familiar and it should. The main reason is the fact that this roster was playing for Cloud9 back at the time when they were dominating in the tournaments but when were not able to close those tournaments in their favor.

The only difference between this and the team from that time is Pittner ‘bOne7’ Armand who is the only player who was not a part of that Cloud9’s roster. Not that long ago, Team NP announced that Avery ‘SVG’ Silverman and Theeban ‘1437’ Siva will be leaving the team while Johan ‘pieliedie’ Astrom and Kurtis ‘Aui_2000’ Ling will be replacing them in the team.

This turned out to be a very good decision for Team NP because they started to win some very important matches. Besides that, their results improved significantly and since then they managed to win the third place at the Manila Masters, second place at the ZOTAC Cup Masters, as well as the fourth place at the DOTA Summit 7 that played not that long ago. Because of that, many considered Team NP and now Cloud9 to be one of the main dark horses of The International 7.
