CD Projekt Red and ESL Set To Throw First Ever Gwent: The Witcher Tournament
|
Digital games with cards have been gaining popularity in the past couple of years, and the game that broke the ice was Hearthstone. Since Hearthstone had a massive success during the first year, many other game developing companies had the plan of entering that market. The popularity of Hearthstone is very high even today, and soon, another digital card game will be becoming a part of the eSports industry. On Friday, it was announced that CD Project Red and ESL will be partnering up to organize the first Gwent Tournament.
Even though Gwent is still in its beta phase, the tournament that will be organized in April has already caught a lot of attention among the fans, and the popularity of that tournament will just rise as the tournament gets closer. CD Projekt Red and their Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is starting the new chapter for this game with the Gwent Challenger: The Witcher Card Game Tournament. For those players that are interested in this tournament, the information that the registrations for this tournament has already open is very important news.
The fact is that not a lot of people has heard about the Gwent, but that should not be the reason for worrying. This game was originally included in another game called The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, but after the very good reception by the players, CD Projekt Red decided that it will be developed as a new game on its own. As previously mentioned, the Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is currently in the beta phase, and during that testing phase CD Project RED has organized several tournaments, but the tournament in April will be the first major tournament for this game.
One of the founders of the CD Projekt Red, Marcin Iwinski, has said that the Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was developed because the fans were demanding it which is witnessed by the huge number of people who are currently playing this game actively even though it still not fully released.
Since 2014 and the launch of the Hearthstone, digital card games have been taking over a big part of the gaming community. Even though there are several digital card games in the market, however, none of those games managed to get even close to the popularity that Hearthstone has in the gaming world. Will that be the same with the Gwent: The Witcher Card Game – it remains to be seen but the number of people that are already interested in the tournament may suggest that it will be a close race between Hearthstone and the Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. One of the reasons why Gwent: The Witcher Card Game might actually come close to Hearthstone is the fact that it was developed from The Witcher that already has a very big following.
April is coming very soon, and with that, we will be able to see whether Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has a potential to become a serious part of the eSports industry or it will follow the path of some other digital card games that attempted to break into the eSports market but failed to do so.
