Overwatch eSports scene has been under big pressure in the last couple of months. Many have criticized Blizzard Entertainment and their approach to the organization of the Overwatch tournaments and third-party licensing, but that does not seem to be hearing that criticism. In order to make the Overwatch League the center of the Overwatch eSports scene by limiting the number of Overwatch tournaments that are being organized by the third-parties. Yesterday, we wrote about Team SoloMid. They are dropping their entire Overwatch team due to the financial reasons. These are caused by the uncertainty of the Overwatch League and the future Overwatch eSports tournaments.
Today, we are hit with news about another organization that is completely ending their Overwatch efforts and that eSports organization is Red Reserve. This eSports organization has not been part of the Overwatch eSports scene for a long time. Only for two months – to be precise. It seemed that Red Reserve is on their way of attempting to achieve the success in this eSports competition. Red Reserve Overwatch team featured players that previously played for b0nkers team. There is the announcement about signing those players came in March. Because of that, their decision to drop out completely is more than surprising.
According to the Red Reserve officials, one of the reasons why Red Reserve made this move is the fact that Red Reserve Overwatch team is located and considering that Overwatch scene in Europe is very poor, Red Reserve just did not see any point in keeping a team that is competing very rarely. Their statement has also said that they have seen huge potential in Overwatch scene. However that potential people didn’t realize in a true sense. Many wanted to know what has caused many, not only Red Reserve and Team SoloMid, to think hard about their decision to participate in Overwatch competitions.
Red Reserve Organization
When it comes to the Red Reserve eSports organization, they will be continuing their efforts in other eSports competitions. These competitions are Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, FIFA, as well as in Call of Duty competitions. On the other hand, players that signed in March with Red Reserve’s Overwatch team will continue to play as a team. However they will look for the new organization. They have announced that they will continue to play together under the new name ‘th0nkers’. Their team has gone even further by adding the sixth player to the roster, Eoghan ‘Smex’ O’Neill. It proves how serious they are when it comes to the Overwatch competitions.
At this moment, the future of Overwatch eSports scene is facing a lot of problems. Many people think it does not look bright. The uncertainty about the Overwatch League and other Overwatch tournament have caused many questions. Many poeple involved in this competition aks question why teams moved from Blizzard Entertainment. With Team SoloMid and now Red Reserve completely dropping out of the Overwatch eSports scene we cannot but to wonder what is next thing that will have a huge hit on Overwatch competitions. With so many things going wrong recently for Blizzard and Overwatch, we cannot but to wonder what the future of the Overwatch is.
