Alex ‘Aurace’ Nguyen Joins Detroit Renegades as the new Team Coach

Vedran Ostojic | July 4, 2017 | Overwatch | No Comments

Currently, Detroit Renegades are competing in the Overwatch Contenders, and after the group stage of this competition, they are doing very well as they have managed to finish in the first place in their group. However, during that time, they did not have a full-time coach. In fact they relied on the help of several individuals who contributed to the team’s performance with their experience.

Yesterday, Detroit Renegades announced that they have finally signed a full-time coach. The coach will be joining the team in the playoffs of the Overwatch Contenders Season Zero. Their new coach is Alex ‘Aurace’ Nguyen who previously worked as a coach in Team Liquid.

Aurace and Overwatch

As we have said before, Aurace has previously been a member of Team Liquid. During his time in the team, Team Liquid has achieved outstanding results. The team did not have so outstanding results before he joined them. Before the start of the Overwatch Contenders, Team Liquid together with Aurace has been competing in the North American Overwatch PIT tournament. This competition proved to be a very successful for this team.

In that event, Aurace led his team to the second place. This was the best result that this team had in the last year. When the Contenders started, Team Liquid became one of the biggest favorites for winning the trophy. They managed to prove their status as favorites in the group stage. Team Liquid reached the playoffs of that competition by finishing in the first place in their group. They are still one of the biggest favorites for the title despite Aurace leaving the team.

The Statement

After the team had announced that he would be joining the team, Aurace stated that is very confident in the abilities that Renegades have displayed in the first part of this competition. Because of that, he clearly said that Reneges are one of the biggest favorites of this competition.

In that statement, he also said that there are only two teams in the entire competition that might pose a threat for his new team. In this opinion, those two teams are Immortals and LG Evil who have also been performing very well in the group stage. Interestingly, he did not mention Team Liquid when he spoke about the favorites which Liquid’s fans will not appreciate.

The expectations are very high because Renegades have been performing very well even before he joined the team even slightest drop in the form will mean that he will be under attack for his coaching decisions. The biggest opportunity for him to prove himself to Renegades’ fans will potentially be in the semi-finals of this competition when Renegades might be facing Team Liquid in a fight for the place in the final.

Renegades manager has also indicated that the expectation that the team has from their new coach are big. He also stated during his time in Team Liquid, Aurace has already proved his worth as a player and coach. So he deserves the respect that he has in the North American Overwatch community.
